“I’ve been gone so long I’ve lost count of the years. Well I’ve sang some sad songs oh yes and cried some sad tears”- Rush, Finding My Way

Unus Annus, One Year. For those of you who haven’t heard of them I’m sorry, its too late now. As I am writing this, there is 3:39:30 left before everything is deleted.

“The days were endless, we were crazy, we were young.” — Queen, These Are The Days Of Our Lives

Unus Annus was a YouTube channel started by Mark of Markiplier and Ethan of CrankGameplay. It is the story of life, the story of how a child grows, discovers who they are, falls into their style, and finally dies. Unus Annus is the story of love, the story of fulfillment, it is the story of life.

“Everything we are and used to be is buried and gone”- Art Of Anarchy, Somber

As time passes the world moves on. Two people live the purest form of life, and they brought us along for the ride. We were all passengers, mere observers of a life well lived. Unus Annus is arguably one of the most poetic things I have ever seen, we become the universe, we are the observers, but we could influence them in many subtle ways, by introducing friends, by liking, or just by enjoying we were influencing the One Year. It is impossible to not leave an impact, if you ignore it then less people are introduced to it, but if you become an active member of the community you leave a lasting positive impact on the wider observers. The universe interacts with itself as we all do. Unus Annus, One Year. The power that we all wielded, and now the powerlessness. We can do nothing to stop the reaper. He comes for us all.

“All we are is dust in the wind”- Kansas, Dust In The Wind.

We are nothing in the grand scheme of things, we are insignificant. We are a drop in an endless sea. In the end entropy comes for us all, in the end all life must cease. This is a sobering fact, this is the kind of thing that changes you. But you can remember. Remember the great times. Remember the positivity that caused you to keep going, remember the love that caused you to change. Mourning is a natural reaction when someone or something you love dies. But mourning can only happen in the wake of love, in the wake of life, in the wake of joy.

“Here’s to you, fill the glass cause the last few days have kicked my ass”- Halestorm, Here’s To Us

This may seem sad, but do not despair as life blossoms in the wake of death. Years after a wildfire ravages a forest, life is in an even greater bloom. What we each take away from this will change you. This could be your starting point or your place of revival. In the end is up to each individual what they think… but as I am the one writing this I will tell you what I am taking from this.

“I believe we’re along for the ride”- Dream Theater, Along For The Ride

Though I have not been the most active in the community there is something special here. This allows us to ponder death through the perspective of life. Unus Annus shows us that there is more to life than death, but that death is inevitable. Just like how no great book is complete without the perfect ending, no great life is complete without its final end. I take from this a sense of freedom, a sense of pride, a sense of satisfaction and a sense of joy. I may not have been active, but I was there. I took part. The ride was fun while it happened, but in the end we can’t stop the world from turning around. The clock ticks on.

“All that you can do is wish them well”- Rush, Wish Them Well
